Today in art lesson, my friends and I were doing research on the designs of Elizabeth outfits. After researching, we just need to design and sketch our Elizabeth outfits the whole lesson.

Today in art lesson, we learnt about "Surrealism", the history of surrealism, how surrealism connected to self discovery, and what are the six strategies of surrealism.

The movement began in the mid-1920s in France and was born out of an earlier movement called Dadaism from Switzerland. It reached its peak in the 1930s. Surrealism images explored the subconscious areas of the mind. The artwork often made little sense as it was usually trying to depict a dream or random thoughts. Surrealist imagery is probably the most recognizable element of the movement, yet it is also the most elusive to categorize and define. Each artist relied on their own recurring motifs arisen through their dreams or/and unconscious mind.

The Six Strategies of Surrealism are : Scale, Levitation, Juxtaposition (joining two images together in impossible combinations), Dislocation (taking an object from its usual environment and placing it in an unfamiliar one), Transparency, and Transformation.

Today in art lesson, we learnt about "Butoh Dance", What is "Butoh Dance"? Who invented Butoh? Where it was invented? When it was invented? Butoh dance has its origins in Japan in the 1960's. Butoh appeared first in Japan following World War II and specifically after student riots. The first butoh piece, Kinjiki (Forbidden Colours) by Tatsumi Hijikata, premiered at a dance festival in 1959.

Hijikata was dissatisfied with the Japanese modern dance scene, feeling that it was merely a copy of the work being done in the West. He wanted to find a form of expression that was purely Japanese, and one that allowed the body to "speak" for itself, thru unconscious improvised movement. His first experiments were called "Ankoku Butoh", which means the "Dance of Darkness". This darkness referred to the area of what was unknown to man, either within himself or in his surroundings.

Today in art lesson, my only group mate, Samuel, were planning to plan and design our group's Elizabeth outfit, for our summative task. Samuel and I had planned to make a man's costume. For the man's outfit, we had designed the sleeves using "big paper made lantern (shown-below)". We also planned to design the shorts using "paper-made lantern' and one short. We used ribbons, dots, and strips for the decorations of the outfits.
